The name Pūtara holds deep significance, reflecting our whakapapa and honouring the generations that came before us.

Pūtara is derived from my nanny Ngaraka, whose lineage traces back to Papa Tewhareputara, my Great Great Great Koro (grandfather). In Māori culture, whakapapa is more than just family history; it is the foundation of identity, connecting us to our ancestors, our land, and our cultural heritage. By naming the retreat Pūtara, we celebrate the strength, wisdom, and love passed down through the generations.

Papa Tewhareputara, a revered ancestor, was a figure of great importance, and this name honors his legacy. It represents the enduring spirit of family and connection to the land, as well as a reminder of the mana (prestige) that flows through our whakapapa.
